Our story

Software of Excellence was founded in New Zealand in 1989 and in 2007 became one of the key product brands in the Henry Schein One portfolio.   Today, we are recognised as an international market-leading provider of dental practice management software backed by insightful business insights and passionate dedicated people.

1989

Software of Excellence was founded in New Zealand and developed as a practice management software for local dental practices.

1993

Software of Excellence launched its fourth version of its EXACT practice management software which included charting and a basic appointment book functionality.

1994

This year marked the business arrival into the UK market, targeting dental practices across the country operating at both a high street and corporate level.

1995

The company grew to six employees in the UK and acquired a new business called Vamp Dental. Moving to Branden Oast House.

1997

Version 6 of EXACT was a complete redesign that provided a complete tooth chart.

2000

PLC went public with a turnover of 10 million NZD, acquiring two further companies Dental Systems Design and Clockwork.

2001

Launch of Version 8 of the software, which meant a more comprehensive package including contact lists, queries and SMS messaging.

2002

This was a landmark year as we reached our 1000th customer in the UK. The Advance Group was also acquired.

2003

We introduced 3D Charting.

2005

Two years later, we introduced EXACT V10 which included a number of tools including Examine Pro, UDA Predictive Manager and Recall Manager.

2006

The business moved to Eclipse House in Maidstone and our team had grown to 70 people.

2007

Software of Excellence became part of Henry Schein.

2008

We launched our consultancy services and we sent over 227,000 SMS messages to patients from EXACT to boost practice performance.

2009

An important landmark as we became the market leader with over 4,500 dental practice customers.

2012

Saw the launch of EXACT V11 which included Recall Automation and Workflow Manager. Plus 21.5 million SMS messages were sent via the software.

2014

This year we moved to Medcare House in Gillingham, with 116 team members, taking care of 6,000 customers and now also sending 969,0000 letters via our Easy Post feature.

2015

Version 12 our practice management software was introduced featuring marketing automation and ROI analysis tools.

2016

Introduction of our global award winning Customer Success Programme.

2019

Our latest software, Version 13 allowed practices to optimise the patient experience at every touchpoint increasing patient loyalty and retention.

2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic our business became a hybrid remote working environment - we continued to support thousands of practices internationally with our practice management software solution.
